       Learn to accelerate achievement for low-achieving students. Participants will learn to use the Fountas and Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention materials.

Principals' Academy I & II Instructor: The LCOSU Training Team
       Principals' Academy is offered to principals, superintendents, and curriculum specialists. Curriculum leaders from all schools serving K-6 students will benefit from this academy.

KEEP BOOKS Workshops will be offered periodically. Past participants have:
  • Learned how to integrate KEEP BOOKS into a learning environment.
  • Discovered how to establish a school/home book program with KEEP BOOKS.
  • Found out how KEEP BOOKS can be matched with state standards and how they can be used to help children develop comprehension skills.

Guiding K-3 Writers to Independence: The New Essentials (One Day Seminar)Instructor(s): Selected Authors of Guiding K-3 Writers
       An intensive one-day seminar designed to help classroom teachers work effectively in developing independent writers. Participants will receive a Limited Edition Advance Publication of the professional resource by Patricia Scharer, Gay Su Pinnell, and the literacy trainers at The Ohio State University. Pre-K & Kindergarten Literacy Development (One Day Seminar)Instructor: Lea McGee

Coaching Academy
       Prepares individuals to coach K-6 teachers in reading, writing, and word study. Participants will learn how to work with teachers to help them become more effective in their classroom practice. For more information and to download a registration form, please click here.

Running Records for Teachers and Professional Developers Instructor: Emily Roders
       New teachers or even experienced teachers who want to brush up on their skills will benefit from this one-day session focusing on coding, scoring, and analyzing running records. Using The Continuum of Literacy Learning as a Foundation for Effective Instruction in Reading and Writing: A Workshop with Gay Su PinnellInstructor: Gay Su Pinnell
       This two-day institute led by Gay Su Pinnell will help participants understand and use The Continuum of Literacy Learning, K-8: A Guide for Teaching as a bridge between assessment and effective literacy instruction across contexts. Literacy Collaborative® Training and Professional Development Opportunities

These training events are designed for schools that have implemented or will implement Reading Recovery®, or current Literacy Collaborative® schools.


Literacy Coordinator Training (Literacy Collaborative)Instructor(s):
The LCOSU Training Team
       An intensive 7 week (Primary) or 8 week (Intermediate) course occurring throughout the academic year that prepares a teacher to implement the Literacy Collaborative® Framework in the classroom. Teachers attending this training develop the capacity to train other teachers on-site at the building level.

Quick Start! (begin your Literacy Professional Development here!)Instructor(s):
The LCOSU Training Team
       One week of intensive study to prepare educators to improve K-6 reading achievement. Instructional contexts include: interactive read aloud, guided reading, reading workshop, and writing about reading. School/district administrators are encouraged to attend the entire week with their team. A two-day option is available for administrators.

Developing Comprehension Strategies K-6 (builds on content in Quick Start!)Instructor(s):
The LCOSU Training Team
       Two weeks of in-depth, example-based training to prepare educators to improve reading and comprehending strategies across instructional contexts.

Literacy Leadership K-6Instructor(s):
The LCOSU Training Team
       Three weeks of continued study for those who have completed Quick Start! and Developing Comprehension Strategies K-6 to prepare literacy leaders for elementary schools. Topics include coaching, working with adult learners, leading professional development, content area reading, writing instruction, and phonics and word study.

Assessment-to-InstructionInstructor(s):
The LCOSU Trainin Team
       Learn how to analyze and interpret assessment data to inform instructional planning. Participants will work with their own data to identify curricular needs and design instruction to meet the needs of individual students.

2008 Response to Intervention Follow-up ConferenceInstructor(s):
The LCOSU Trainin Team
       This institute is designed for school teams who are writing the K-6 portion of the RtI plan. Topics will include Planning Together; Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI), a closer look at a small group intervention model; and Funding Reading Recovery as part of your RtI Plan. Suggested Paticipants are Response to Intervention school teams (i.e., administrators, psychologists, special education representatives, curriculum directors, Title I coordinators, and Reading Recovery site coordinators and/or Teacher Leaders).

       Ongoing professional development; open to educators affiliated with the OSU Literacy Collaborative® network.
  • Primary Professional Development October 15-17, 2008 and January 7-9, 2009. Look for registration materials starting September 1st. The registration deadline is September 30th.

On-Site Professional Development is offered by The Ohio State University Literacy Collaborative® staff. Our trainers have expertise in the following areas:

The fee for On-Site Professional Development is $1800 for a full day plus travel expenses. Attendance for the on-site event is limited to 50 participants.

District Level Support (open to all schools)Instructor(s):
The LCOSU Training Team

District Level Support will be designed and customized with careful consideration for the specific needs of a district. Services may include but are not limited to:

  • Assessing data
  • Site visits
  • Presentations on reading/writing
  • Literacy teaching
  • Coaching support
  • Designing an in-depth study on coaching

The fees for District Level Support are 10 days of planning/support for $15,000 plus travel expenses.
